Fly Control & Removal
Flies are insects that belong to the order Diptera, and they have only two wings. In the United Kingdom, there are many species of flies, including cluster flies and blue bottle flies.
Cluster flies are a type of fly that are often found in large numbers in homes and buildings during the fall and winter months. They are typically black or dark gray and have a slightly larger body than a house fly. Cluster flies do not pose a health threat to humans, but their presence can be a nuisance.
Blue bottle flies, also known as blow flies, are larger fly species with a metallic blue or green body. They are attracted to decaying organic matter, such as animal carcasses, and are often used by forensic investigators to estimate the time of death in criminal investigations. Blue bottle flies can also be a nuisance in homes and are known to lay eggs in meat and other food items.
Other common fly species found in the UK include house flies, fruit flies, horse flies, and midges.
Fly Facts.
-
Flies are attracted to decaying organic matter, such as animal waste and rotting food. They feed on this material and can spread bacteria and other pathogens from one location to another, including onto our food and surfaces that we touch.
-
Flies have sticky pads on their feet that allow them to cling to surfaces, including those that may be contaminated with germs and bacteria. This makes them effective at picking up and spreading pathogens, including those that can cause diseases like salmonella and E. coli.
-
Flies have the ability to regurgitate their food, which helps them to liquefy solid food and make it easier to consume. This process can also help to spread bacteria and other pathogens from one surface to another.
-
Flies are known to lay their eggs on or near decaying organic matter, including animal carcasses and human waste. The eggs hatch into maggots, which feed on the surrounding material and can be a source of disgust for many people.
-
In addition to their feeding habits, flies are also known for their buzzing and swarming behavior, which can be unsettling and annoying to many people.

Fly Life cycle.
The life cycle of a fly includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult.
-
Egg Stage: A female fly lays her eggs on a suitable substrate, such as decaying organic matter or animal waste. The eggs hatch within a few hours to a few days, depending on the species.
-
Larval Stage: The newly hatched larvae, also known as maggots, feed on the surrounding organic matter. The maggots molt several times as they grow, and after a few days or weeks, depending on the species, they reach their full size.
-
Pupal Stage: The larvae then transform into pupae, during which time they do not feed and undergo metamorphosis. The pupal stage lasts several days to several weeks, again depending on the species.
-
Adult Stage: The adult fly emerges from the pupa and begins to feed and reproduce. Adult flies typically mate soon after emerging and can lay hundreds of eggs in their lifetime.
The length of the fly life cycle depends on the species of fly, as well as environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. For example, the life cycle of a house fly can be completed in as little as seven days under ideal conditions, while some species of fruit flies can complete their life cycle in just a week

Cluster Flies.
Cluster flies tend to be most active in the fall and winter months, particularly in the months of September and October in the northern hemisphere. During this time, cluster flies often seek shelter in homes and buildings to escape the cooler temperatures outside. They are attracted to warm and sunny spots, which is why they may be seen clustered around windows or in attic spaces where there is more sunlight.

Once inside, cluster flies may hibernate in wall voids, attics, and other sheltered areas, and emerge in the spring when temperatures warm up.
ServLabs Pest Control understands the frustration of dealing with a cluster fly infestation and is here to help. Our technicians have the knowledge and expertise to quickly and safely identify, treat, and prevent future infestations. We use a variety of methods to eliminate cluster flies, including the use of insecticides and other advanced techniques. Fruit Fly.
Fruit flies, also known as vinegar flies or Drosophila melanogaster, are small insects that belong to the family Drosophilidae. They are commonly found in homes, restaurants, and other places where food is stored or consumed.
Fruit flies are called "fruit" flies because they are attracted to ripe or rotting fruits and vegetables. They are usually about 1/8 inch long, have red eyes, and a tan or light brown body with black rings on their abdomen. They have a lifespan of about 30 days, during which time they lay their eggs on ripe or rotting fruit, and their larvae feed on the fruit.
While fruit flies are not harmful to humans, they can be a nuisance, particularly in large numbers. They are known for their ability to reproduce quickly, and can quickly infest a home or business if left unchecked.
Mosquito.
Mosquitoes are small, flying insects that belong to the family Culicidae. There are over 3,500 species of mosquitoes found throughout the world, and they are known for their ability to transmit diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus.
In the United Kingdom, there are around 30 different species of mosquitoes, but only a few are common and considered a nuisance to humans. The most common species are the common mosquito (Culex pipiens) and the mosquito Aedes detritus, both of which can be found across the UK. Mosquitoes in the UK are typically active from late spring to early autumn and can be found near standing water sources like ponds, lakes, and rivers. Although mosquitoes in the UK are generally considered a nuisance, they are not known to transmit any diseases.
Blue Bottle Flies.
Blue Bottle Flies (Calliphora vomitoria) are a type of large, metallic blue-green colored flies that are commonly found throughout the world, including in the United Kingdom. These flies are attracted to decaying organic matter and are known to feed on dead animals, garbage, and feces.

Blue Bottle Flies can potentially carry and transmit various bacterial and viral diseases, including salmonella, E. coli, and anthrax. However, they are not a major disease vector for humans, and the risk of infection is relatively low.
There could be several reasons why there might be Blue Bottle Flies in your house. One common reason is that there may be a source of decaying organic matter, such as a dead animal or rotting food, in or near your home that is attracting the flies.
